چکیده
Time Trends in Lung Cancer Incidence Susan Devesa (National Cancer Institute) presented lung cancer incidence data for the period 1969-i986 for five geographic areas (Atlanta, GA; Connecticut; Detroit, Ml; Iowa; San Francisco, CA; and Oakland, CA) covering 7% of the United States population. Overall, the rate of lung cancer increased 3%/year from 38.6 to 58.4/1 00,000 personyears during this period. The mate of lung cancer was highest among black men, followed by white men, while mates among women were considerably lower. Among men, squamous cell carcinoma was the most frequent cell type, followed by adenocancinoma and small cell carcinoma. Among women, however, adenocancinoma was the most frequent cell type. On the basis of SEER data for the period 1 983-i 987, for both sexes and all races combined, adenocarcinoma accounted for 31.5% of all lung carcinomas with a rate of 1 6.7/1 00,000 person-years, exceeding that of 1 5.3 for squamous cell carcinoma. Cohorts at highest risk for adenocancinoma were born somewhat later than those at highest risk for squamous cell carcinoma. Women at highest risk were born later than men at highest risk for both cell types. Adenocancinoma was the most frequent type of lung carcinoma among black men under age 50, white men under age 60, black women under age 65, and white women of all ages. The ratio of adenocancinoma to squamous cell carcinoma has been steadily increasing; in white males, this ratio was 1 :2.3 from 1 969 to 1 971 but 1 :1 .4 from 1 984 to 1 986. These data suggest that exposure and mechanisms may vary by histological type.

Gene Regulation Network Based Analysis Associated with TGF-beta Stimulation in Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells
Background: Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β is over-expressed in a wide variety of cancers such as lung adenocarcinoma. TGF-β plays a major role in cancer progression through regulating cancer cell proliferation and remodeling of the tumor micro-environment. However, it is still a great challenge to explain the phenotypic effects caused by TGF-β stimulation and the effect of TGF-β stimulatio...
متن کاملThe Role of Immunohistochemistry Studies in Distinguishing Malignant Mesothelioma from Metastatic Lung Carcinoma in Malignant Pleural Effusion
Background and Objective: Early diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is the key point of its treatment. The main problem is the precise diagnosis of mesothelioma and its differentiation from metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. Mesothelioma exhibits complex immunohistochemical characteristics. The aim of this study was to study hybrid immunohistochemistry in the differe...
متن کاملEpidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) Gene Mutation Analysis in Adenocarcinoma of Lung, the First Report from Iran
Background and Objective: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutation, especially in exons 18 to 21, is an important predictor of the response rate of lung adenocarcinoma to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. There are variable reports from Asian and European countries, as well as North America, about the frequency of the EGFR mutation in lung adenocarcinoma, yet molecular s...
متن کاملEvidence of jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus-induced pulmonary adenocarcinoma in Ouled Djellal breed sheep in Algeria
We report the occurrence of lung cancer in a six months old lamb of Ouled Djellal breed from Algeria. The main clinical sign was a considerable amount of whitish foamy fluid discharge from the nostrils when the animal head was lowered and the rear end was lifted. The post-mortem examination revealed the presence of enlarged, heavy and edematous lungs with diffuse or foci areas, reddish or white...
متن کاملMetastasis of Lung Adenocarcinoma to the Gingiva: A Rare Case Report
Metastatic tumors account for 1% of all oral malignancies. Metastasis to jaw bones is common, particularly in the mandible, rare in the oral soft tissues, and account for only 0.1% of oral malignancies. The majority of metastatic cases (70%) reported in the literature have primary tumors located in the lung, breast, kidney, and colon. Metastasis is a biological complex process that involves det...
